Questions
What players and server owners ask first about Soldier Front Legacy.
Playing
Do I need Soldier Front installed?
Yes, on Windows and Linux. The download is only the game, a few megabytes: drag it into your Soldier Front folder, beside its data, and run legacysf.exe. The Android package carries its own data.
Is anything bought with real money?
No. SP is earned by playing, and Coins are bought with SP.
Does my rank carry over between servers?
Yes. One Team Vanilla account, one rank and one record on every server, official or community. XP is the same everywhere, with one limit: at most 25 ranks a day, counted across all servers from midnight UTC.
Can I play alone?
Yes: This PC on the server list is a server on your own machine, with bots, and friends on your network can join you. Nothing played there counts toward your rank, record or SP.
Why is my frame rate held at 144?
That is the frame limit the game starts with. Raise it to 360 in Options, System, Display, or turn on vertical sync to keep to your screen's refresh.
Can I play with a controller?
Yes: an Xbox controller, a DualShock 4 or a DualSense, by cable or Bluetooth, in the menus and in the match, on every system. Typing still wants a keyboard, except on a phone, where its own comes up. See controls.
Is there a Linux, macOS or Android version?
Yes. Each has a game of its own: Linux, macOS (Apple Silicon) and Android, and the server runs on Linux as well as Windows. The download page has each one this build carries, and every server takes players from every system alike. On Android the touch screen is the controls in a match, and a controller works too. Running the Windows game under Wine, Proton or CrossOver is not supported. See platforms.
I forgot my password.
Contact a member of Team Vanilla on the Soldier Front Legacy Discord. There is no email reset.
Can a server owner read my messages or see my password?
No. Whispers, mail and friends go between your game and Team Vanilla directly, never through the server. A server never sees your password; it is shown a short-lived ticket Team Vanilla signed.
A server I bought things on closed. What happens?
Team Vanilla refunds the SP and Coins you spent on its own items and capsules. Base items you bought there are yours on every server. See fair play.
The game says my game or the server is out of date.
A build's game and server are one version. The message says which of the two is older; get the current build from the download page.
Running a server
Can I run a server on web hosting?
Usually not. A server needs a UDP port players can reach from the internet and a machine that stays on. Shared web hosting gives neither. A PC at home with a port forwarded, a VPS, or a small ARM board on Linux will do.
Does it cost anything to run one?
The server program is in the download. What your machine and connection cost is yours.
Why is my server not on the list?
It is listed while it runs, runs a current build, sends its heartbeat, and can be reached from the internet. Its log says whether the heartbeat is accepted and whether Team Vanilla could reach it. See when something is wrong.
Can I add my own guns and maps?
Yes, as packs: your own weapons, maps and characters, 50 MB in all, downloaded by players as they join. They add to the game; they never replace or re-skin anything of it. See packs.
Can I give players SP, or make everything cheap?
No. A server holds no money and cannot add SP or Coins. Your own items are priced as you choose; base items never below Team Vanilla's price.
