OpenSFSoldier Front Legacy

Download

Build 1 (protocol 24). The game and the server of a build are one version: a server and the games joining it must match.

The game for Windows

The game, legacysf.exe, which plays the data of your own Soldier Front installation. Drag everything in the zip into your Soldier Front folder (the one holding data, or the Client folder that holds it) and run legacysf.exe there; nothing of Soldier Front's own is replaced, and nothing is installed. Kept anywhere else, it asks where Soldier Front is the first time. It also holds This PC, a server of your own on your machine for playing with bots or friends on your network (nothing played there counts toward rank or record).

The game for Linux

The game for a 64-bit Linux PC, legacysf, which plays the data of your own Soldier Front installation (copied from Windows as it is). Unpack it into your Soldier Front folder and run ./legacysf there; nothing is installed. It draws with OpenGL ES 3 on your own graphics driver, on X11 or on Wayland through XWayland, and holds This PC as the Windows game does. Your settings go in ~/.config/legacysf.

The game for Android

The game for an Android phone or tablet (Android 8 or later, 64-bit), with the Soldier Front game data inside the package. Open it on the phone and allow installing it; the first start sets the data up in the game's own folder, once. In a match the touch screen is the controls; a controller works too.

The server for Windows

LegacySFServer for 64-bit Windows, laid out and ready: server.cfg, the original thirteen channels, an empty staff list, the game's own shop, the folders for your packs and the tools (lsfpack, sfcheck). Keep it in a folder of its own, apart from any game. It reads its maps from the Soldier Front game data: copy your Soldier Front installation's data folder into it, or name that folder as client_data in server.cfg.

The server for Linux

The same server for Linux: legacysf-server for x86-64 and, in arm64/, for ARM64, with a systemd unit and a Containerfile, with the Soldier Front data given the same way: copy your installation's data folder in, or name it as client_data in server.cfg. One program, no installer; it needs glibc 2.28 or newer, libcurl and the system's certificates.

What the game needs

  • Windows: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, and a graphics card with DirectX 11. DirectX 12 is used where the card offers it; OpenGL is the last fallback.
  • Linux: a 64-bit PC with glibc 2.28 or newer, an X11 desktop or Wayland with XWayland, an OpenGL ES 3 graphics driver (Mesa's, or NVIDIA's own) and libcurl.
  • macOS: an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer) on macOS 12 or later.
  • Android: Android 8 or later on a 64-bit phone or tablet, about 4 GB free: the game, and the data its first start sets up. The touch screen is the controls; a controller works too.
  • Your own Soldier Front installation on Windows and Linux: the game plays its data and goes into its folder. The Android package carries the data itself.
  • A keyboard and a mouse, or an Xbox, DualShock 4 or DualSense controller.

What a server needs

  • 64-bit Windows, or Linux on x86-64 or ARM64 with glibc 2.28 or newer (Debian 10, Ubuntu 18.10, RHEL 8 and later).
  • A UDP port players can reach from the internet: 27240 unless you choose another.
  • A machine that stays on while it hosts. Shared web hosting usually will not do: it has no UDP port a program of yours may open.

Checking a download

Each package's SHA-256 is above. Compare it with your copy's:

Get-FileHash SoldierFrontLegacy-Windows.zip
sha256sum SoldierFrontLegacy-Server-Linux.tar.gz
shasum -a 256 <file>

Inside, files.sha256 lists every file with its own SHA-256, so a damaged or missing file can be found after unpacking.

Linux, macOS and Android

Each system has a game of its own, made for it, and every server takes players from every system alike: one account, one record, the same match. A system's game is in the list above once build 1 carries it.

Linux

OpenGL ES 3 on your own graphics driver, on X11 or on Wayland through XWayland, with This PC as on Windows. Unpack it and run ./legacysf. The Linux server is above too, for x86-64 and ARM64.

The game and the server are in build 1

macOS

Apple Silicon only, through ANGLE on Metal. Keep the app and its data folder together. It starts unsigned: allow it once in System Settings, Privacy & Security, Open Anyway. A Mac plays; it holds no server.

Built on a Mac: not in build 1 yet

Android

One package with the Soldier Front data inside; the first start sets the data up, once. Touch controls for the match: a stick for the left thumb, Fire, Aim, Jump, Crouch, Reload, Swap and Use for the right, the rest of the screen to look, each one where you arrange it. A controller works too. A phone holds no server.
